10:16 < SerWou> good morning
10:19 < SerWou> i did a symlink in /dev from /dev/md/1 -> /dev/md1 and finally got something uniform for my soft RAID with /dev/md0 and /dev/md1, but the symlink disappear after the reboot, and i have filesystem errors because the kernel can't mount the whole /etc/fstab, RAID aeras are absents. How make this symlink persistent ?

10:33 < Xenos> hloall
10:34 < SerWou> hello Xenos
10:37 < mtr> SerWou: look in /etc/devfs.d/compat, do you have a MKOLDCOMPAT entry for md/.* devices?

10:45 < mtr> add the lines for md devices: http://pastebin.com/434120
10:45 < SerWou> hoo, thanks ;)
10:46 < SerWou> so, what it will make exactly ? keep the symlinks i did in /dev ?
10:47 < mtr> SerWou: it tells devfsd to create the symlinks for you
10:49 < SerWou> ok
10:49 < SerWou> thanks
10:49 < SerWou> between, have you ever run RaidSoftware ?
10:51 < mtr> SerWou: do you have LOOKUP md/.* IGNORE in your devfsd.conf? probably you should comment this out
10:51 < Xenos> hmm
10:51 < Xenos> while running firefox..
10:51 < Xenos> /opt/firefox/firefox-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
10:51 < mtr> SerWou: sorry, no linux raid experience
10:51 < SerWou> Xenos , do you have GRSEC ? ;)
10:51 < Xenos> ?
10:51 < Xenos> what's this?
10:52 < SerWou> a security linux kernel patch ?
10:52 < Xenos> em
10:52 < Xenos> yep
10:52 < Xenos> but
10:52 < Xenos> but libstdc++.so.6 installed...
10:53 < SerWou> that's the first time you run firefox ? or you ran it before and it was working ?
10:53 < Xenos> yeah, first time..
10:53 < Xenos> i installed t2 yesterday
10:53 < SerWou> try "paxctl +c /opt/firefox/firefox-bin" and "paxctl +m /opt/firefox/firefox-bin"
10:54 < Xenos> zsh: command not found: paxctl
10:54 < Xenos> :)
10:54 < Xenos> i can symlink libstdc++.so.5
10:54 < Xenos> )
10:54 < Xenos> it works..
10:54 < SerWou> whereis paxctl, locate paxctl
10:55 < SerWou> HO ;)
10:55 < SerWou> mtr , i don't have "LOOKUP md/.* IGNORE" in devfsd.conf
10:57 < mtr> SerWou: ok (i have no t2 2.1 around, so i guess this is an obsolete relict in 2.2)
10:57 < SerWou> good ;)
10:57 < SerWou> Thanks for the help
10:58 < SerWou> i would like to paste my RAID problem here, maybe you will have any idea
10:58 < SerWou> 1.
10:58 < SerWou> when i reboot, i've got RAID errors, (i'm setup-ing RAID1 software with 2 IDE HDs) i have to comment lines who talk about /dev/md* in /etc/fstab, boot, than run "raidstart /dev/md*.." by hand, than mount "mount /dev/md.. /home/...." to get it working... quite heavy
10:59 < SerWou> RAID1 is on my kernel
10:59 < SerWou> cat /boot/kconfig_2.6.11.12-dist | grep RAID1
10:59 < SerWou> CONFIG_MD_RAID1=y
10:59 < SerWou> i don't know if it's directly linked to the symlink devfs thing

16:16 < _Ragnar_> valentin: afaik at least in german law it is not possible to sign away your copyright that way
16:17 < valentin> _Ragnar_: that is not true. In fact you hold Uhrheberschaft
16:17 < valentin> but not copyright
16:18 < valentin> which contains the right to distribute the work
16:18 < valentin> i.e. you cannot sell one article to many magazines
16:19 < _Ragnar_> afaik you could, but that would mean none of the magazines would probably accept any later submissions from you

18:42 < karasz> definitely a penguin with pikes
18:43 < karasz> i mean in the end is a Tux right? and you say that your closest relative is OpenBSD....
18:44 < karasz> it is kinda cool but now that i think more about it, it may be too complicated for a mascot...

18:53 < SerWou> SerWou: we have grsec, but not PAX yet.
18:53 < SerWou> ok
18:53 < mnemoc> to use pax, first you need to build your target using PIE
18:53 < mnemoc> which doesn't work fine currently
18:54 < SerWou> i see
18:54 < mnemoc> once that is done, you need paxctl which is a helper to tell the kernel what to randomize and what don't.
18:54 < mnemoc> but grsec is not just pax
18:54 < SerWou> i don't know what grsec do exactly too

19:40 < rxr> mnemoc: ack
19:40 < valentin> i'd like to have a nice mascot
19:40 < sepp> a caterpillar sitting on a tea? laef :P

19:41 < valentin> a T2 bus :)
19:41 < mnemoc> like a transformer?
19:41 < karasz> sepp: s/tea/mushroom/
19:42 < valentin> mnemoc: this one:
19:43 < sepp> a caterpillar eating a psychedelic mushroom with strange dreams?
19:43 < valentin> http://www.bulli.org/
19:46 < mnemoc> sepp: i think we have to find the mascot first, and then characterize it. having a mascot we can make lot of different logos using it.
19:47 < karasz> but to find a mascot shouldn't you think of one and only one caracteristic of T2 that sets it apart?
19:48 < valentin> how about a cute penguine *g*
19:48 < karasz> could it be its morphing capabilities?
19:48 < mnemoc> .oO
19:49 < valentin> bchunk in extra/filesystem ?
19:49 < mnemoc> extra/tool i think
19:49 < mnemoc> but i hate our current categorizations :p
19:49 < mnemoc> karasz: what do you see when you look at a caterpillar?
19:49 < valentin> yes. imo we should think about multiple categorys per package
19:50 < valentin> and why always this 'extra' ?
19:50 < mnemoc> valentin: that's the idea, to have only one, use the repo name :p
19:50 < karasz> catepillar?
19:51 < mnemoc> valentin: i prefer a tree, to be able to do desktop/* or desktop/kde/* on package selection.... each level more grained
19:51 < karasz> lots of legs i guess....
19:51 < valentin> mnemoc: well, if we'd do that, then we could skip that flag anyway
19:51 < mnemoc> desktop/kde/core ....

19:57 < sepp> mnemoc: i dont think so, but why is linux like a fat penguin ?
19:58 < mnemoc> fat and woosie
19:58 < karasz> sepp: because it is content
19:58 < karasz> http://www.sjbaker.org/tux/
19:58 < karasz> ^^ that is why it is fat :)
19:59 < valentin> hm, where to put bchunk ?
19:59 < valentin> still into filesystem ?

20:01 < mnemoc> nah
20:01 < mnemoc> a mutant :p
