10:00 < tri> hm - i have a new generic t2-trunk build - is it right that the standard "cd app" is cdrtools and not cdrkit ? how can i change this ? - not that it makes any sence just to know how t2 works :-)
10:01 < rxr> until yesterday this was the case

10:57 < jalsot> yes, I saw, just don't know what to do with
10:59 < rxr> usually builds here, did not hear complaints about it
10:59 < rxr> maybe it's a parallel make issue
10:59 < rxr> do you have parallel build enabled ?
11:00 < jalsot> I used the default settings, j2, AFAIK
11:01 < jalsot> checking...
11:01 < jalsot> Maximum number of jobs to be executed in parallel: 2
11:01 < jalsot> should I try with 1?
11:04 < rxr> yes, just in case
11:04 < jalsot> ok, in progress :)
11:04 < rxr> though on our multi cpu machines I never had a glibc failure
11:05 < jalsot> this is a Dual Core AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 265 box
11:06 < jalsot> single CPU, Dual Core
11:06 < jalsot> Linux maxi 2.6.16.29 #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Oct 16 11:02:51 CEST 2006 x86_64 GNU/Linux
11:06 < jalsot> we will see
11:08 < jalsot> failed :(
11:09 < jalsot> on the same place
11:11 < rxr> hm
11:15 < jalsot> hmm, I tried a new config with x86_64/x86_64 and it went over glibc
11:15 < jalsot> could it be caused because of not setting cross-compilation option?
11:15 < jalsot> [in prev. case]
11:16 < rxr> no building i?86 on a x86-64 host is not cross building that just works
11:16 < rxr> same for powerpc on a powerpc64 host and sparc on a ultrasparc (sparc64) host
11:20 < jalsot> hmm, than I don't have any idea
11:22 < jalsot> ok, never mind, I'm just playing :) this 2nd configuration seems to be OK
11:24 < jalsot> hmm, glibc is compiled twice?
11:25 < tri> why do i have to add the "-cfg" option for the emerge-pkg script - if i got it right, emerge-pkg do "only" compile and install the selected package for the running system and to build a package for a target a do a build-pkg so that the package isn't installed on the running system ?
11:25 < jalsot> I just noticed tha there are 2 logfiles: 0-glibc.log and 1-glibc.err
11:25 < rxr> 0 is system header
11:25 < rxr> 1 is frest bootstrapping cross compilaion
11:25 < rxr> the stages are listed in the handbook
11:26 < jalsot> I got till "Getting New Packages Into T2" in the handbook :)
11:26 < jalsot> as I see, some pages and there are the build stages described
11:26 < jalsot> :)
11:26 < jalsot> reading...
11:29 < tri> pushing my question... :-)
11:29 < rxr> tri: ?
11:31 < tri> what is the diffrent between build-pkg and emerge-pkg ?
11:31 < tri> :-)
11:31 < tri> and why do i need emerge-pkg -cfg $id ?
11:32 < rxr> tri: Build-Pkg is the bare workhorse
11:33 < rxr> Emerge-Pkg does the depdendency resolution, automatic download if not yet there etc.
11:33 < rxr> you only need the -cfg to all tools if you have more than one config
11:33 < rxr> if you ommit -cfg whatever it defaults to a config name "default"
11:33 < rxr> so you can leave the -cfg * away if you build your in-system stuff, ilke firefox gnome kde
11:34 < rxr> and just add the -cfg embedded-board if you cross compile the stuff for your embedded target
11:35 < rxr> have to go home to let some one replace our new dish washer that broke in the first 6 month!!!
11:35 < rxr> back soon - cu
11:35 < jalsot> cu
11:36 < tri> cu - thx
11:38 < tri> is build-target or / and build-pkg also doing depdendency resolution ?
11:44 < mtr> no, Build-Target solely relies on the targets package selection rules
11:46 < mtr> and the additional packages added by your configuration
11:46 < tri> a so if i just add a package to the selection rule it doesn't resolve depdendency and that can create problems ?
11:49 < mtr> yes, you have full control over the package selection, no automatism ;-)
11:50 < tri> nice
11:54 < mtr> dependency checking for build time and runtime, and automatic build priority estimation is on the TODO list
11:55 < mtr> "no static build priority"
12:01 < tri> hm that would be a nice feature

14:00 < babygor> morning!
14:03 < rxr> hi babygor
14:15 < babygor> rxr, it seems I have no luck building my T2 system.
14:16 < babygor> Can't even build 6.0.3 with basic uclibc and busybox.
14:17 < babygor> There must be something fundamentally wrong in the steps I do.
14:19 < rxr> more likely with something on your (debian it was?) system
14:19 < rxr> just run some T2 flavour in a virtual matchine
14:19 < rxr> machine it will just build then
14:19 < rxr> however our goal is to build on any dstribution, and uaully it does
14:20 < babygor> it is Ubuntu 7.04
14:20 < rxr> but searching such glibc makefile things usually takes some time
14:20 < babygor> will give it a try using a t2-live system.

14:37 < tri> what would be the best target for a 700mhz 128mb ram x86 machine - which should play videos and audio files ?
14:38 < rxr> the desktop would be a bit big to start with
14:38 < rxr> maybe copy it and remove all from the pkgsel that you think you will not need
14:52 < tri> rxr: digitaltippingpoint have now a problem: Too many connections - so posting a link in this channel is like a DOS Attack :-)

15:25 < jalsot> are the several targets up-to-date? right trying to compile embedded+x86_64 and getting patching errors, rejects on gcc
15:25 < jalsot> I have no luck to have something compiled with T2
15:26 < rxr> :-(
15:26 < rxr> jalsot: well - the targes are all in good shape
15:26 < rxr> if someone tried embeded x86-64 yet I do not know, usually embeded are more low-end
15:26 < rxr> embedded arm, mips, suprth. sparc, powerpc avr32 or plain x86 at least do
15:27 < jalsot> I know, but I cannot even compile rescue for x86-64
15:27 < rxr> well - that usually works
15:27 < rxr> probably something is just very wrong with your running system
15:27 < rxr> you chrooted for building t2 or so I vaguely remeber ?
15:27 < jalsot> " Please install the mac80211 subsystem." I added the mac80211 package by hand, run BuildTarget and got the same
15:28 < jalsot> yes, chrooted ubuntu dapper
15:28 < rxr> hm - ok , that might be a bug in some wlan driver
15:28 < rxr> which driver is that in ?
15:28 < jalsot> Building iwlwifi within linux26 (using postlinux.conf).
15:29 < jalsot> can I continue a package build without starting from the beginning?
15:29 < jalsot> like for linux26 which takes too long to run it again from beginning
15:29 < rxr> enable ccache than it goes faster
15:29 < rxr> you can also just build the third party modules by exporting some SDEDEBUG... variable
15:30 < rxr> but you can just look up in the log file where it failed
15:31 < tri> what advantage have the Realtime Option ?
15:31 < rxr> it enabled rtai patch I think
15:31 < rxr> you only need it if you want to build hard-realtime systems
15:31 < jalsot> rxr: thx. I think I will give up for a while, maybe will retry later
15:32 < rxr> jalsot: maybe just try the bfin what you wanted in the first place
15:32 < rxr> tri: hard-realtime requieres to write special hard-realtime code
15:32 < rxr> you probably do not want that
15:32 < jalsot> hmm, you told, let's wait for your commits :)
15:33 < jalsot> btw, I tryed and compilation failed
15:33 < rxr> yes wait for the bfin bits

16:56 < mtr> did someone lately built an embedded uClibc target, after bash32-011 patch/update, that is after r23214 on 2007-03-26?
16:57 < mtr> when chroot'ing into the new build, bash endlessly loops
16:58 < mtr> booting the new build results in immediate bash segfaults, /sbin/init cannot spawn any childs
17:00 < mtr> i believe this regression is related to bash32-011,
17:01 < mtr> workaround is to prevent configure from setting GETCWD_BROKEN=1, with setting "bash_cv_getcwd_malloc=yes" in config.cache

22:25 < sepp_> it has no glibc headers ?
22:30 < babyGor> well, /usr/include/sys/types.h is not there.
22:32 < sepp_> oops
22:33 < babyGor> I am using that SDE flavor per rxr's suggestion of using any flavor.
22:34 < babyGor> which one you use?
22:34 < sepp_> i have it installed
22:35 < sepp_> my own target ...
22:35 < babyGor> So far could not build any T2 system... :-(
22:36 < babyGor> There seems to be a problem with (k)ubuntu 7.04, since anything I tried fails
22:36 < babyGor> strangely... that is why I started with 6.0.3, but...
22:36 < sepp_> if you dont mind installing it you could get the minimal iso, that has everything you need to build it
22:37 < sepp_> no xorg or so, but gcc and all the things one needs
22:37 < babyGor> I am using virtual machines, so installing is not an issue. But,
22:37 < babyGor> isn't minimal the one I am trying now?
22:37 < babyGor> or minimal and minimal-desktop are different?
22:39 < sepp_> yes minimal without desktop has no xorg
22:39 < babyGor> ok, where do I find it? sorry to be so annoying, but I got this t2-minimal-desktop-live-6.0.3-pentium-mmx_cd1.iso
22:40 < sepp_> for x86?
22:40 < babyGor> from t2-home -> download -> osiris.tfh-berlin.de master server -> stable
22:40 < babyGor> yes, x86
22:40 < sepp_> e.g. http://osiris.tfh-berlin.de/mirror/t2/stable/6.0.1/minimal-x86-pentium-mmx/t2-minimal-6.0.1-x86-pentium-mmx_cd1.iso
22:41 < babyGor> oh, then I will try that one.
22:42 < babyGor> I went for the newer one, and looked into 6.0.2 but there was only ultrasparc
22:42 < babyGor> ok, here goes another vmware instance :-)
22:42 < babyGor> thanks!
22:42 < sepp_> i used the minimal 6.0.1 x86_64 iso to build my own target when i bought the X2 this year, so that works ;)
22:43 < sepp_> but i dont know about the livecd iso
22:43 < babyGor> oh, I see.
22:44 < babyGor> Don't know why, but I though all were live, and you could install them.
22:46 < sepp_> i dont know anything about the livecd target ...
22:46 < babyGor> will try that one, thanks.
22:47 < sepp_> but old minimal will work for sure
22:48 < babyGor> do you think I should report this lack-of-glibc-headers somewhere?
22:48 < sepp_> sure
22:48 < sepp_> http://bugs.t2-project.org/newticket
22:51 < sepp_> if there is some space left they should be on the cd to be able to build t2, i think
22:52 < babyGor> I'm quite sure this is not intended: ISO file I got was 350mb.
22:54 < sepp_> well, i dont know that
23:01 < babyGor> ok, done with the new ticket :-)
23:03 < sepp_> :)
