At the time I was using Gentoo, coming from the world of windoze (still sooo green on linux). Only slightly scanning the quick install & the quick build instructions, everything worked the FIRST time with out a hitch. I said to myself "self you did good, come back in a while & look at t2 more closely. well here I am :-) 00:51 < cgetty> I work for a small power company. I have a hand full of PCs I would like to run on Linux for our normal day to day stuff. This is something I seem to be hell bent on doing, the company dose not have a preference. 00:51 < cgetty> I hope to become very intimate with t2, I think I will learn a lot if I stick with it. 00:51 < cgetty> So why all the chatter? Just to give you some perspective on some of the characters that come across t2 and how they hope to use it. 00:51 < Ragnar|away> :) ok 01:14 -!- sepp [n=sepp@Z43c2.z.pppool.de] has joined #t2 02:06 oh - wrong query :-) 19:06 < rxr> hm - wonderful 19:06 < rxr> now I painfully copied some old mp3 files to the G5 to sync them to my iPhone 19:07 < rxr> and now this sh*t f*cking iTunes tells me the iPhone can only be synced with only one iTunes Library 19:07 < rxr> damn vendor lockin and DRM fluff ... 19:07 < rxr> now I have to reboot my MacBook from Linux to OS X just to get this damn files to the phone ... 19:17 < Ragnar|away> lol 19:18 < rxr> interested in the memory layout and library in use on the iPhone: 19:18 < rxr> http://people.exactcode.de/~rene/MobilePhone-2007-09-30-111756.crash < cgetty> Ok, At the risk of sticking my foot in my mouth I'll jabber some more:-0 21:37 < cgetty> It seems that the magazine would have at least two groups in mind. One would be manufacturers of equipment that could be working with the T2 as a base. 21:37 < cgetty> Another group could be users of such equipment(like me). For example we maintain the kwh meters for the city I live in. Back in the day meters were mechanical, these days they are solid state (small computers). It would be nice if I could have our meters be like computers, buy them & program them as you wish. How practical is that? I'm not sure, its just something I would like to see (I think it coming). 21:37 < cgetty> Just this morning I was talking to a vendor telling that I have some of the first solid state hybrid that come out in 1989, they work fine, the only reason they are going in the trash today is that the software to program the is obsolete. If they had something like t2 as a base would that be the case? 21:37 < cgetty> Now meters are cheap right? who cares. But when we through BIG DOLLAR Substation SCADA equipment away for the same reason, well now we care. Just some thoughts. 21:52 < CIA-8> rene * r26208 /trunk/package/base/crash/ (. crash.cache crash.desc): * added crash (4.0-4.7) - Core analysis suite 22:01 -!- Key_Gena95 [i=lok@gateway/tor/x-c2fe9bea7ef75152] has quit [Remote closed the connection] 22:49 -!- Key_Gena95 [i=lok@gateway/tor/x-653cbabd35efa9eb] has joined #t2 23:38 < Ragnar|away> rxr: hmmm how easy would it be to enforce all shared libs on a system to be PIC? --- Log closed Fri Oct 05 00:00:35 2007
