14:05 < michael-i> hello, rxr
14:05 < michael-i> one last meeting before I can get back to development...
14:07 < michael-i> I'm still working on that arch_target problem from yesterday. Is the best way with some parse-config logic?
14:41 < rxr> hi
14:41 < rxr> sorry was busy
14:41 < rxr> so - back
14:42 < rxr> I already gave you the answer yesterday, before you started your exessive trial
14:42 < rxr> that is architecture/.../parse-config
14:42 < rxr> like in sparc64
14:42 < rxr> should be helpful to do the per package arch host target triplet mangling
14:43 < michael-i> I also tried that but failed because I didn't understand exactly what/when that file was used. Sorry, I'll try some more mangling. :)
14:45 < rxr> it's used for every build
15:42 < michael-i> This parse-config (http://pastebin.ca/1528043) produces the right debug line but the tuple being used for linux26 is still incorrect. By commenting out the arch_target define in archtest.out, building the kernel results in a Cross_CC_not_built_so_far_cc.
15:43 < rxr> the sprac64 stuff
15:43 < rxr> used to work
15:43 < rxr> maybe something is overriden in the linux package ?
15:44 < michael-i> The commented out arch_target line in archtest.out is never set with parse-config, no matter which package is used.
15:45 < rxr> you have it in architecture/bfin/ ?
15:45 < michael-i> yes
15:48 -!- mj-netbits [n=mj-netbi@213.174.252.112] has joined #T2
15:48 < rxr> the linux kernel does not redefine it whatever?
15:49 < rxr> can you check with another, straight forward package?
15:49 < rxr> like zlib or so
15:49 < michael-i> That's what I'm saying. No matter which package is selected, if the original define in archtest.out is commented out, the arch_target is never set
15:49 < michael-i> inside the parse-config script, it is set and echo'd but the change is not passed on or applied
15:49 < rxr> but the code in architecture/sparc64/parse-config works ...
15:51 < michael-i> that may be. This is a simplified version of that script and the change is not applied. The variable value does not seem to be recognized outside of parse-config.
15:52 < rxr> can you show me your scripts?
15:52 < rxr> if a few lines just paste here
15:52 < michael-i> http://pastebin.ca/1528043
15:53 < michael-i> that is parse-config, archtest.out is the standard blackfin one with arch_target commented out
15:54 < rxr> hm
15:55 < michael-i> That's why I'm confused...it seems straight-forward.
15:55 < rxr> you want this to pickup your different toolchain executables, right ?
15:56 < michael-i> Correct. Manually changing archtest.out works. Now I need to automate that commenting/uncommenting
15:56 < rxr> ok - maybe the issue is just that the CC et al. vars are set before parse-config?
15:57 < rxr> if it is just the compiler name to be change maybe just tweak CC?
15:57 < rxr> et al
15:57 < michael-i> That's the path I went down yesterday with Makefile patches, etc..
15:57 < michael-i> No luck
15:57 < rxr> why no luck?
15:58 < rxr> btw. I mean just change CC= in the parse-config
15:58 < rxr> not patching
16:09 < michael-i> new script (http://pastebin.ca/1528065). This results in the last line of linux26 failing with "bfin-t2-linux-uclibc-ld: failed to merge target specific data of file arch/blackfin/lib/lib.a(checksum.o)"
16:10 < michael-i> it's still using the old values :) fun stuff
16:12 < rxr> the script is run ?
16:14 < michael-i> yes, the first line of output is my debug line there
16:15 < rxr> maybe the main parse-config (scripts/) is run last or so and resets the CC= ?

16:40 < michael-i> I've moved on to using archtest.sh... but it doesn't have access to $pkg that early.
16:41 < rxr> nope
16:41 < rxr> it's meant for little vs. bit endian CPU options etc.
